Hunger Games

This book is written as a young adult (YA) novel. Do you think this is appropriate for young readers -- why or why not? Did the subject matter read differently/weigh heavier/easier read for you because of where you are in your adult life?

  1. I first read this book before Ollie was born and to me, it read like a great work of fiction. I read it again this past month -- and having Ollie in my life the book touched me differently thinking about how devastating it would be if the State took him away for some deadly "game" of theirs. And how scared he would be. So it meant something different to me. Every child who died in that ring was someone's baby -- even if they were seemingly horrible people.

  2. I thought it read like a Young Adult book, although I enjoyed it. The relationship between Rue and Katniss was very touching, and I thought Rue's death was especially haunting.
